Greetings from the Director of Special Education

  • Summer is finally here and the weather has been Great so far!

This can be a time when families wind down and relax.  It may be a time when you thinik about and reflect on the last school year for your child.  Where there significant learning struggles?  Did your child experience significant frustrations?  If you are feeling that what your child is experienceing is not typical and have some questions please feel free to give the Special Educatin office a call.  We are located in the Elementary School and work throughout he summer.  I would be glad to talk with you on the phone or set up a meeting to discuss any concerns you have for your child.

This summer the Special Education Teachers are joining thier General Education colleagues for multiple trainings.  Writing will be a big focus this summer as well as the upcoming Next Generation standards for ELA and Math.  In addition there is some safety and trauma based training that select staff will be attending.   Summer is a very busy time for school staff.  They spend multiple days learning techniues and strategies to support all students.  Teachers are also busy individualizing content and materials for your child so the year starts off smoothly.

Several students from Franklinville will also be participating in extended school year programming over the summer.  Our students in need of that support will attend programs in Olean and Delevan through the Cattaraugus Allegany BOCES.  We work closely with BOCES to support students in this breif 6 week program.  If your child attends and you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to our office at (716)676-8001 and we will work to help you find the information you need.

I hope you get some time for family fun this summer and are able to make a few special memories for your children.  September is just around the courner and I can't wait to seewhen they return to school how everyone has grown and hear all about their summer adventures.

As always Please feel free to stop in or call with any questions or concerns.
